Project Name
Development of Industry Foundation Models and Enabling AIoT Technologies for Smart Manufacturing
Project Goal
This project aims to develop an Industry Foundation Model (IFM) that is adaptive, secure, and deployable for smart manufacturing applications. By integrating artificial intelligence, large language models, edge computing, multimodal sensing, and intelligent communication technologies, the project establishes a trustworthy and actionable AI foundation suitable for real-world industrial environments. The project focuses on complex and high-risk manufacturing scenarios, enabling intelligent inspection, industrial safety, human–machine collaborative decision-making, and flexible production adjustment, while lowering the adoption barrier for AI and IoT technologies. Ultimately, the project seeks to accelerate the transition of AI from research to on-site deployment, enhance industrial resilience and operational efficiency, and strengthen Taiwan’s global competitiveness in smart manufacturing.
Project Description
This project addresses the growing demand for real-time decision-making, system reliability, cybersecurity, and flexible deployment in smart manufacturing. It proposes an integrated Industry Foundation Model (IFM) as a next-generation AI foundation for industrial applications. Unlike cloud-centric and general-purpose AI solutions, the project emphasizes domain-oriented, lightweight, and edge-deployable systems that can be practically implemented on production lines and industrial equipment. The project covers five major technical directions, including deployable industrial AI models, human–machine collaborative decision systems, multimodal perception and action capabilities, intelligent communication mechanisms, and low-barrier IoT device integration platforms. These technologies collectively support applications such as intelligent inspection, industrial safety, process optimization, and knowledge accumulation. Through validation in diverse manufacturing environments and close collaboration between academia and industry, the project aims to translate research outcomes into real-world impact, enhance industrial efficiency and resilience, and establish a forward-looking AI foundation that strengthens Taiwan’s smart manufacturing ecosystem.
